Grammy nominated-Juno winning Cuban pianist Dánae Olano is joined for the first time by bassist Marc Decho and drummer/percussionist Frank Martinez for an explosive evening of authentic Cuban rhythms mixed with Jazz improvisation and modern harmonies.  Not to be missed!

Born on May 6th, 1992 in Havana, Cuba, Danae began her early musical training in piano at elementary music school Alejandro García Caturla at the age of seven. In 2008 she continued her studies on piano at the Conservatory of Music Amadeo Roldán in Havana, Cuba. She graduated with Best Bachelor of Arts instrumentalist (piano) and ensemble practitioner in 2011. She finished her studies at the University of Arts (ISA), Graduated from Piano Cum Laude.

She has performed as a soloist in important concert halls of her native country such as: Ernesto Lecuona in the García Lorca Theater, Amadeo Roldan Concert Hall and Caturla Concert Hall of the Amadeo Roldan Theater; in the San Felipe Neri Chapel and Basílica Menor of San Francisco de Asís Convent.  In March 2014, Dánae made her debut with the symphonic orchestra of Havana Mozart Lyceum conducted by Professor Jorge Rotter.  In 2016, she was invited to participate in the First Piano Festival held in Eastern University Philadelphia, USA.

Currently Dánae is a member of Maqueque Band, conducted by the Canadian saxophonist and composer Jane Bunnett and has performed on important stages such as Koerner Hall, Dizzy’s Club NYC, Blue Note, Birdland, Shenkman Arts Centre, Burlington Performing Arts Centre, Markham Flato Theatre, Kennedy Centre and La Zorra y el Cuervo Club.

Marc Decho (bassist and composer):

Born in Montreal and now based in Wakefield, Quebec, bassist/composer/arranger Marc Decho is widely recognized as one of the most diverse and in demand bassists in the Ottawa/Gatineau region, completely self-taught & equally adept in both upright bass/electric bass, he has performed at various festivals throughout France, Cuba & Canada. 

Marc has performed/recorded with some of Canada’s finest musicians including Juno Award-winning, Grammy-nominated Canadian jazz icon Jane Bunnett, Grammy winning bassist/producer Roberto Riveron (La Rumba Soy Yo - 1998), Alexis Baro, Elmer Ferrer, Amado Dedeu Garcia, Reimundo Sosa, Yoel Diaz, Allan Molnar, Roddy Ellias, Amhed Mitchell, Luis Deniz etc.. as well as shared the stage with such greats as: Lee Fields, Bernie Worrell, SF Jazz Collective, Ivan Mazuze, Daymé Arocena, David Sanchez, Miguel Zenon, Yissy Garcia y Banda Ancha, Yasek Manzano, Leyanis Valdez (daughter of legendary Chucho Valdez),  Alice Russell, Tanika Charles, Rich Brown, Marito Marques, Jeremy Ledbetter, KC Roberts & The Revolution and many more.

As a leader and sideman, Marc performs with and leads multiple groups, most notably The Miguel De Armas Quartet, Eru-Era, Sun Crescent BBQ Stompers & Marc Decho Warp’tet.

Frank Martinez Nodarse (drummer and percussionist):

Started studying music when he was 10 years old at “Manuel Saumell” elementary school in the percussion specialty (Havana, Cuba).  After 5 years of studies, he enrolled in the music conservatory Amadeo Roldán of Havana where he continued studying instruments such as timpanis, marimba, vibraphone, xylophone, snare, timbales, congas, batà drums, drums and bongos.  After 4 years he received a Bachelor of Professional Musician and Professor of Percussion.  After a year, he began studies at the University of the Arts of Cuba (ISA), to obtain a degree in percussion and began to play with groups like Frank Delgado, and the company “Opera de la Calle” where he did several tours across Cuba and one for Canada in 2014. “When I came to Canada I played in cities like Quebec City, New Brunswick, Montreal, Toronto, Gatineau and Ottawa.  I really liked Ottawa, so I decided to stay here and start a new life”.

Currently Frank plays with multiple groups in the Ottawa/Gatineau & Montreal area, teaches drums, timbales, congas and bongos and is an official endorsee of Murat Diril Cymbals.

UpsyDaisy:

French bassist and composer Christian Bailet is back with his latest project: a jazz-rock fusion trio that goes by the name of UpSyDaIsY. The trio offers a Jazz-rock cocktail of intricate compositions and deft arrangements, with the traditional jazz roots ever present. The chemistry between the musicians is clear to the ear and with their improvisational exchanges and healthy helping of groove, no one performance is the same.

UpSyDaIsY breaks down the barriers between musical genres, blending jazz, funk and rock with the energy and freedom of improvisation. The trio has a unique sound and a varied and exciting repertoire; appealing to jazz lovers from across the spectrum, ready to embark on a new and thrilling musical journey… see you there!

Christian Bailet:

Christian Bailet is a French composer and bassist who draws strong influence from all jazz genres and who has been inspired by the likes of Jaco Pastorius, Gary Willis, Jean-Marc Jafet, Pat Metheny, Miles Davis and Weather Report.
Christian studied and graduated from the prestigious Conservatory of Nice, (France) in 1992 and has been leading his own groups for the past 26 years. Christian has collaborated with a host of amazing artists and musicians, including Janysett McPherson, Jean-Paul Ceccarelli, Robert Persi, Alain Asplanato, Fréderic Sicart and Yoann Serra to name a few. 

His album “Electrochoc” (co-composed with guitarist Olivier Benarroche for their quartet Isotop) was named “best self-produced album” by the FNAC (France`s largest international entertainment retail chain) and awarded first prize in the self-produced album category by the SACEM (France`s official body for music industry professionals).

Christian is also a reliable and much appreciated sideman. Over the past few years he has accompanied the immensely talented Cuban singer-song writer and pianist Janysett McPherson, at concerts and festivals across France, Italy and Spain. The quartet has even been hired to play at royal weddings!

Philippe Fleury (Drums):

A freelance drummer from Victoriaville, Philippe has been in the music business in Quebec since the age of 15. Recently graduated from the Université de Montréal in music, he currently plays with several Quebec artists including Geneviève Leclerc. His vast knowledge of different styles allows him to take part in various musical projects.You will appreciate his musicality, precision and versatility.


Félix Tellier Pouliot (Guitar):

As a performer, Felix regularly plays with legendary bassist Michel Donato, whom he performed with at the Montreal International Jazz Festival in 2016. The guitarist also plays with other great musicians from the local and international scene such as; Jeri Brown, Dave Turner, and Christian Bailet. He performed with his quartet at the Montreal International Jazz Festival in 2015, playing his own compositions. At the moment, Felix is working with the jazz-rock trio «UpsyDaisy» and singer-songwriter Max Comeau, as well as pursuing a career as a film music composer.

All Live @ Record Runner concerts are held at Record Runner Rehearsal Studios in a warm and intimate setting. Seating is very limited - it is recommended to purchase your tickets early before show sells out. Refreshments will be served.
