Another GREAT concert last night (Nov 11) by the amazing Carl Mayotte Quintet. The sold out show dazzled the ‘Live @ Record Runner’ audience with the virtuosity of all the musicians and their commitment to pushing the jazz fusion genre to new heights with their creativity and technical prowess. Astounding.

Grand laureate of the 2020-2021 Radio-Canada Jazz Revelation title, Carl Mayotte is one of the most sought after bassists and jazz musicians in Quebec and Canada. Having started his professional career at the age of 16 and completed a master's degree in jazz performance at McGill University, his virtuosity and versatility have been noticed by several musicians and critics from Alain Caron to the Bass Magazine. He has just released his third album, Escale, which won him a Félix award for jazz album of the year in 2022.

Carl Mayotte and his group deliver a magical concert where solos and virtuoso flights follow one another as in an action film that would keep you awake on the end of your chair. One of the great goals of the young jazzman is to democratize jazz by creating a concert where communication and the exchange of energy with the public are essential. Sometimes complex, melodic or even nostalgic, the music played by Carl and his fellow musicians leaves no one indifferent. They will present the music of their latest album Escale, which recently won a Felix for best jazz album of the year in Quebec.
